Osmotic Electro-generator Plant by Statkraft

Statkraft is the world’s leader in the development of osmotic power. Osmotic power is clean, renewable energy, with a global potential of 1 600 to 1 700 TWh – equal to China’s total electricity consumption in 2002.

Statkraft opens the World first Osmosis power plant that will be able to produce from 2 to 4 kilowatts of pure reusable electricity. The importance of this invention is that it doesn’t use Sun or Wind power to generate electricity but instead it’s using two different kinds of water, salted and fresh. The idea behind the project is that when fresh water meets salt water it generates a pull effect which, if enough water is being used, will be able to turn a generator turbine without need of Sun or Wind powers. All this happens with a use fancy membrane that helps increase sea water pressure, which is really cool. Power plant doesn’t produce any gasses and water is reusable so it’s practically might become the best electrical generators when compared to Solar or Wind plants. Hopefully, we will see more of those plants in the near future.
